What happens next<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\n            In a letter sent on Friday to Goldman CEO David Solomon, Democratic Rep. Robert Garcia called Ruemmler\u2019s testimony before the committee \u201cnothing short of shocking\u201d and said that she was \u201cclearly demonstrating a refusal to take accountability for her conduct.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n            \u201cMs. Ruemmler should not serve as a Goldman Sachs executive in any capacity,\u201d Garcia wrote. Ruemmler initially announced her resignation from the bank in February after a series of reports, including from CNN, detailing the extent of her relationship with Epstein in the years before he died in 2019.\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n            While Ruemmler initially said she intended to leave the bank on June 30, she has since remained in an advisory role, reportedly at the behest of Solomon, while the firm seeks to replace her.\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n            Garcia also called on the bank to commit that its next chief legal officer have no connection to either Epstein or his convicted accomplice Ghislaine Maxwell after Ruemmler declined to promise so in her closed-door interview last month. Elizabeth Warren and Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi questioned Solomon\u2019s \u201cprofessional judgement and fitness\u201d to lead the bank following reports that he had asked Ruemmler to remain as an adviser after her planned departure.\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n            Last month, Ruemmler testified before the Oversight committee for more than seven hours \u2014 one of its longest interviews yet in its Epstein probe. Ruemmler said she regretted ever knowing Epstein, called it a \u201cmistake to deal with him\u201d and expressed sympathy for his victims.\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n            Garcia, however, was unsatisfied with many of her answers and called on the bank to reply by August 21. In his letter, he cited Ruemmler\u2019s responses to jokes she and Epstein made about his criminal history and attacks she made against Virginia Roberts Giuffre, one of Epstein\u2019s most prominent accusers who died by suicide in 2025.\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n            When asked specifically by investigators whether she believed Giuffre was a victim of Epstein and Maxwell\u2019s, Ruemmler answered, \u201cI don\u2019t know.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n            She elaborated: \u201cIf she says that she was, I don\u2019t have a reason to doubt that. However, there were allegations that she made that were, I believed based on my experience as a former prosecutor and as a defense counsel, that were of such a nature that they were \u2011\u2011 they lacked inherent credibility.\u201d\n    <\/p><p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/relocationtimess.com\/?p=8890\">US intel assesses Putin could launch attack aimed at testing NATO unity<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\n            Giuffre\u2019s family swiftly blasted Ruemmler\u2019s answer. \u201cThe only person who lacks credibility is Kathy Ruemmler, who is trying to get people to believe she didn\u2019t know Jeffrey Epstein was actively engaged in sex trafficking,\u201d Sky and Amanda Roberts, Giuffre\u2019s brother and sister-in-law, saidin a statement to CNN last week, adding that Ruemmler \u201cshould be ashamed of herself.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n            Jami Schlicher, a spokesperson for Ruemmler, disputed that Ruemmler was \u201cbroadly dismissing Virginia Giuffre\u2019s allegations\u201d in an email last week before Giuffre\u2019s family members had issued their statement.\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n            \u201cThat is simply not what happened,\u201d Schlicher wrote last week. \u201cMs. Ruemmler was responding to a specific discussion about specific allegations. She was expressing skepticism regarding particular claims that had not been substantiated, not every allegation Ms. Giuffre ever made.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n            AndJennifer Connelly, a spokesperson for Ruemmler, told CNN in a statement last week, \u201cAs Ms. Ruemmler told the committee, she had no knowledge of Epstein\u2019s ongoing criminal activity and there is not a shred of evidence to suggest otherwise. Ms. Ruemmler would never turn a blind eye to any criminal activity and if she had seen or heard anything to suggest that Epstein was harming women or girls, she would have taken action to stop it.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n            The letter from Garcia also said Ruemmler\u2019s testimony \u201craised serious concerns\u201d about Goldman Sachs\u2019 response to her relationship with Epstein.\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n            According to the letter, Ruemmler told the committee that she disclosed the connection before she was hired and provided the bank with additional information in 2023, 2025 and 2026. She said she \u201cwouldn\u2019t characterize\u201d Solomon\u2019s reaction as concern and that no one at Goldman objected to her serving on the firm\u2019s reputational risk and conduct committees.\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n            CNN\u2019s KFile previously reported on Ruemmler\u2019s ties to Epstein, including the hundreds of emails they exchanged between 2014 and 2019. Some of the emails released in the Epstein files showed Ruemmler advising Epstein on legal and reputational matters in the last five years of his life.\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n            Other emails, which are subject to attorney-client privilege but were described in a court document, suggest she was involved in advising Epstein further on a range of topics, including efforts to preserve his controversial 2008 plea deal, drafting and shaping proposed public statements, editing correspondence with a US senator, and even discussions related to victim settlements.\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n            Some of Ruemmler and Epstein\u2019s communications were also more personal in nature.
