\n Allies of Donald Trump are pushing the president to encourage embattled Republican Rep. Max Miller to drop his reelection bid, according to four sources familiar with the matter, amid claims of domestic abuse from his ex-wife and pressure from his former father-in-law, Sen. Bernie Moreno.\n <\/p>\n

\n As concerns have grown about Miller\u2019s electability, some top House Republicans have phoned White House officials asking for help, one of the people told CNN. Those members specifically want Trump to ask for Miller to drop out before the deadline for him to appear on the ballot, that person said.\n <\/p>\n

\n Trump has privately told some allies that he doesn\u2019t believe Miller can win the race, given the accusations, and that he should drop out, one source familiar with the internal conversations told CNN.\n <\/p>\n

\n Miller has insisted he will stay in his race. Over the weekend, Moreno said that his ex-son-in-law \u201cshould not serve\u201d in Congress.\n <\/p>\n

\n Some in Trump\u2019s circle lamented on Monday that Moreno waited so long to directly condemn Miller, worrying it may now be too late to convince the president and GOP leaders to mount the full-court press necessary to push him out of the race.\n <\/p>\n

\n \u201cI wish he\u2019d come out against this guy sooner,\u201d said one Trump adviser. \u201c(Miller) sounds like a real scumbag.\u201d\n <\/p>\n

\n At an unrelated Oval Office event Monday, Trump said that he believes Miller is \u201ca very good person\u201d and that he\u2019s \u201cgoing to let the families figure that out.\u201d\n <\/p>\n

\n \u201cThose families, I know they\u2019re working on it. It\u2019s a very sad thing, especially when you know somebody so well, to be going through that, but it\u2019s accusations,\u201d he added.\n <\/p>\n

\n The controversies surrounding Miller, who represents a district in eastern Ohio, threaten to jeopardize his chances of winning what was once thought to be a safe GOP seat, and could imperil Republicans\u2019 chances of maintaining control of the House in this year\u2019s midterms.\n <\/p>\n

\n Here\u2019s what to know about the controversies that have surrounded the Republican congressman and his relationship with his ex-wife.\n <\/p>\n

\n Ex-wife, whose father is a Republican senator, accuses Miller of abuse
\n<\/h2>\n

\n Miller married Emily Moreno, the daughter of Sen. Moreno of Ohio, at the Trump National Golf Club in New Jersey in 2022, the same year Miller was elected to Congress. They had a daughter in 2023. The next year, Miller filed for divorce, and it was finalized in 2025.\n <\/p>\n

\n Moreno\u2019s father, Bernie Moreno, meanwhile, was elected to the Senate in 2024.\n <\/p>\n

\n Emily Moreno accused Miller of multiple instances of domestic abuse. In police videos obtained by CNN, Moreno described the abuse allegations, including an incident in which she said he held a gun to her.\n <\/p>\n

\n The February interviews were part of a police investigation into how Miller and Moreno\u2019s toddler daughter suffered a broken collarbone. No charges were ultimately filed in connection with the case.\n <\/p>\n

\n Moreno filed a request in court to reopen their custody agreement in March, while Miller filed a defamation case against his ex-wife in May.\n <\/p>\n

\n In an interview with CNN in June, Miller denied allegations of abusing his ex-wife and vowed to fight to clear his name. He said the gun incident never happened and that he stores his guns in a locked safe.\n <\/p>\n

\n Moreno\u2019s attorney Andrew Zashin said in a statement in June \u201cthat the court issued a restraining order to both parties and Emily is going to abide by it.\u201d\n <\/p>\n

\n In a separate filing last week, a lawyer for Moreno asked a judge to issue a restraining order against the congressman, alleging that Miller grabbed him and another attorney\u2019s bag outside an Ohio courtroom.\n <\/p>\n

\n<\/h2>\n

\n Miller sought to clear his name in a Sunday livestream on X, in which he again denied allegations of abuse and vowed he would stay in his race.\n <\/p>\n

\n \u201cMy former wife is engaging in a pattern of reporting incredible, serious and destructive allegations with absolutely no evidence,\u201d he said in the livestream. \u201cEvery one of these allegations was investigated \u2026 and I cooperated fully every single time because I have nothing to hide.\u201d\n <\/p>\n

\n He later added: \u201cI\u2019m not getting out of this race, and I\u2019m winning in November.\u201d\n <\/p>\n

\n Shortly after his livestream, Bernie Moreno released his first extensive public comments on the relationship between his daughter and former son-in-law. Moreno said Miller is a \u201cdanger\u201d to his daughter and said he is concerned every time Miller has custody of his granddaughter.\n <\/p>\n

\n \u201cIf there are any basic standards of character required to hold elected office, Max Miller fails them,\u201d Moreno said. \u201cHe should not serve in the House of Representatives.\u201d\n <\/p>\n

\n Miller dismissed Moreno\u2019s statement in a later post on X, saying, \u201cYou know this isn\u2019t true and the only reason you are speaking out now is to hide from your own media circus.\u201d\n <\/p>\n

\n Miller is set to face Democrat Brian Poindexter in the midterms on November 3.\n <\/p>\n
