Darline Graham running for full Senate term after being appointed to Lindsey Graham\u2019s seat<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\n            \u201cFDA\u2019s traceback investigation and outbreak data continue to converge on shredded iceberg lettuce from Taylor Farms locations in Central Mexico,\u201d the US Food and Drug Administration said in a statement Monday.\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n            \u201cProtecting the American public remains our highest priority. We encourage the public to continue to avoid all products listed in Taylor Farms voluntary recall.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n            On Sunday, Taylor Farms recalled iceberg lettuce shipped to 27 states.\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n            Taylor Farms is a major produce supplier in the US, selling lettuce and bagged salad kits under several private store labels. However, the company did not mention specific retailers, restaurants or product names in its recall notice.\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n            Taco Bell has also removed affected shredded iceberg lettuce supplied by Taylor Farms from its restaurants in five states amid the outbreak.\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n            The FDA reported Saturday that a Taylor Farms lettuce sample had tested positive for cyclospora, but a follow-up from the agency Sunday said the test \u201cshould be considered a false positive.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n            Taylor Farms said Monday that \u201cFDA apologized to us\u201d for the false positive.\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n            \u201cTo be clear, at this moment, FDA has not identified a single positive product test result for Cyclospora,\u201d the company\u2019s statement said.\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n            The FDA made its own clarification Monday.\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n            \u201cTo clarify, this false-positive lab sample DOES NOT change the basis for FDA\u2019s ongoing outbreak investigation or the overwhelming epidemiological data supporting the current voluntary recall by Taylor Farms,\u201d it said.\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n            Health officials said they did not offer Taylor Farms an official apology.\n    <\/p>\n<div>\n<header>\n<span>\n      Related article\n    <\/span>\n<\/header>\n<section>\n<div>\n<div>\n<div>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Taylor Farms said it's recalling iceberg lettuce products shipped to 27 states due to potential contamination with the parasite cyclospora.\" class=\"wp-image-6531\" height=\"144\" src=\"https:\/\/relocationtimess.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/9711d99728cace8efa3a6ac4099baaf0.jpg\" width=\"256\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/figure>\n\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<span>Taylor Farms said it&#8217;s recalling iceberg lettuce products shipped to 27 states due to potential contamination with the parasite cyclospora.<\/span>\n<\/div>\n<figcaption>Svetlana Popova\/iStockphoto\/Getty Images<\/figcaption>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>\n<span>Iceberg lettuce recalled in 27 states due to potential cyclospora contamination<\/span>\n<\/p>\n<div>4  min read<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<p>\n            Frank Yiannas, former deputy commissioner of food policy and reponse at the FDA, called the false positive result \u201cunfortunate \u2013 and consequential.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n            He said he could see why the average consumer might assume that because the laboratory result was determined to be a false positive, the recall itself was unnecessary.\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n            \u201cThat not what this means,\u201d Yiannas said in a statement.\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n            Because it\u2019s so difficult to find cyclospora on produce, he said, \u201cepidemiological evidence alone can, in some circumstances, provide sufficient justification for public health action.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n            \u201cFDA deserves credit for its transparency in promptly communicating the laboratory error,\u201d Yiannas added. \u201cHowever, transparency alone is not enough. It is equally important that the agency determine the root cause of the laboratory or quality control failure, implement appropriate corrective actions, and share the lessons learned with both the public and the regulated industry.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n            In a media briefing Monday, FDA officials said that finding and tracing cyclospora in fresh produce has always been challenging. Because it can take a week or longer for people to develop symptoms, the produce item that made them sick could be past its shelf life.\n    <\/p><p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/relocationtimess.com\/?p=6664\">How the Iran war\u2019s unpopularity compares to Iraq, Afghanistan and Vietnam<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\n            \u201cGiven that time, as well as the need to do epidemiology, all of the potentially contaminated product could have already been discarded or consumed,\u201d an FDA official said.\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n            \u201cAnd so it is a little bit of a chasing game when it comes to testing. But the data from an epidemiology and trace back standpoint, we believe, is very strong.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n            The evidence that led to the recall comes from interviews with people who tested positive for cyclospora and were confirmed to be part of the same cluster of illnesses.\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n            As of Monday, more than 8,000 cyclosporiasis cases have been reported in the outbreak that includes Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky and West Virginia.
