Rincon, a Michigander who retired last year from the Ford Motor Company, graded the president a 1. We began the project 28 months ago with a handful of voters in Iowa and now keep in touch, so far, with roughly 150 voters spread across 17 states.\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n            Polarization has been a constant since Trump took center stage in American politics, so it was no surprise that our end-of-the-year survey showed the fierce divide over the president persists. In some ways, that divide has seemed to widen since his return to office.\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n            \u201cI think President Trump is doing an amazing job,\u201d said Pam Aita, a Pennsylvania retiree who lives in bellwether Northampton County.\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n            \u201cNarcissistic sociopath,\u201d was the quite different assessment of Trump from Darrell Ann Murphy, a retiree who regularly plays mahjong with Aita despite their vastly different views on the president and his performance.\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n            \u201cHe is the worst at everything,\u201d said Zoila Sanchez, a Las Vegas real estate agent who considers herself a Reagan Republican and cannot stomach Trump.\n    <\/p>\n<div>\n<div>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-medium_large\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Zoila Sanchez in her home in Nevada in October 2024.\" class=\"wp-image-512\" height=\"432\" src=\"https:\/\/relocationtimess.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/d6f8109c75a1ac90ca3561da812b037d.jpg\" width=\"768\" srcset=\"https:\/\/relocationtimess.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/d6f8109c75a1ac90ca3561da812b037d.jpg 768w, https:\/\/relocationtimess.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/d6f8109c75a1ac90ca3561da812b037d-300x169.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/figure>\n\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<span>Zoila Sanchez in her home in Nevada in October 2024.<\/span>\n<\/div>\n<figcaption>CNN<\/figcaption>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>\n            \u201cHe is working very hard to bring jobs back to the country,\u201d said Joseph Knowles, a Michigan autoworker.\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n            \u201cHe is not focused on America \u2014 he is focused on himself,\u201d said Claudio Rodriguez, a community organizer and food bank worker in Arizona. \u201cSo much for \u2018America First.\u2019\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n            Beyond the reflexive Trump divide, though, the survey did provide several interesting takeaways. Some may be instructive about the midterm election climate, at least at this beginning stage.\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n            Others offer insight as we inch toward a giant and unpredictable transition: The Republican Party\u2019s search for a new leader after three consecutive presidential elections with Trump atop the ticket.\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n<br\/>There is also the Democrats\u2019 identity crisis, which remains an issue, though it was masked somewhat by the anti-Trump sentiment that powered Democrats to a string of important 2025 election victories.\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n            Some highlights from the survey are below.\n    <\/p>\n<h2>\n        Cost of living remains a dominant issue\n<\/h2>\n<p>\n            Cost of living was a bipartisan concern. Democrats in our voter survey said Trump broke a promise to bring costs down quickly; Republicans tended to be more patient, even as most reported their costs are at least somewhat higher in 2025 than 2024.\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n            \u201cIt\u2019s worse,\u201d said Kim Cavaliere, an independent who lives in Georgia. \u201cSo I am supposed to be excited because egg prices went down.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<div>\n<header>\n<span>\n      Related article\n    <\/span>\n<\/header>\n<section>\n<div>\n<div>\n<div>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Misters spray produce at a grocery store in Dayton, Ohio, on October 21.\" class=\"wp-image-513\" height=\"144\" src=\"https:\/\/relocationtimess.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/286e99708ff7c659a5d7ad692a35da63.jpg\" width=\"256\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/figure>\n\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<span>Misters spray produce at a grocery store in Dayton, Ohio, on October 21.<\/span>\n<\/div>\n<figcaption>Kyle Grillot\/Bloomberg\/Getty Images<\/figcaption>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>\n<span>Fact check: Grocery prices are up, not \u2018way down\u2019 as Trump claimed<\/span>\n<\/p>\n<div>3  min read<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<p>\n            Rincon was one of many voters who planned to spend the same or less this holiday season, she said, \u201csince groceries and utilities are higher.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n            Manhattan nurse Lal Lopez, a liberal Democrat, said she has taken on a third job to help pay the bills.\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n            Chant\u00e1 Villano-Willis, a Georgia Democrat turned independent, said 2025 was a year of high prices for goods and services. \u201cI am not happy about my rise in health insurance premiums,\u201d she added.\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n            \u201cSmall businesses are hurting,\u201d said Catherine Long, a Democrat and retiree in Pennsylvania. \u201cRestaurant prices are skyrocketing.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n            Aita was among the Trump voters urging patience.\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n            \u201cYou can\u2019t flip the standard of living in 11 months,\u201d she said.\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n            Chris Mudd, an Iowa Trump voter, saw his solar energy business take a hit as Biden-era green energy incentives expired.\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n            \u201cLosing tax credits has had a big negative impact on our business, but I trust things will improve,\u201d Mudd said. \u201cThe cost of energy is still too high.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n            Devin McIver, a heavy equipment operator and Trump voter in New Hampshire, took a proactive approach to managing the big 2025 economic changes.\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n            \u201cI\u2019m still able to get the things I need at affordable prices,\u201d he said. \u201cHowever, I am not buying out of Canada due to tariffs. Or any other place with high tariffs.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<h2>\n        Immigration enforcement tactics draw anger, concern\n<\/h2>\n<p>\n            The Democratic voters we surveyed were unanimous in their outrage over the Trump administration\u2019s deportation tactics.\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n            \u201cIt is a stain on our country,\u201d said Carey Fulks Jr., an Atlanta Democrat.\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n            \u201cWay too aggressive and inhumane,\u201d said Angela Lang, a community organizer in Milwaukee.\n    <\/p><p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/relocationtimess.com\/?p=500\">A year into Trump\u2019s second term, Iowa voters offer clues for the midterm elections<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\n            \u201cThere is no grace,\u201d said Rodriguez, the Harris voter in Tucson.\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n            \u201cThere is no transparency concerning the background of those picked up,\u201d said Lawrence Malinconico, a Pennsylvania college professor and fierce Trump critic.\n    <\/p>\n<div>\n<header>\n<span>\n      Related article\n    <\/span>\n<\/header>\n<section>\n<div>\n<div>\n<div>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Mubashir speaks during a news conference with Mayor Jacob Frey at Minneapolis City Hall on Wednesday, December 10, 2025.\" class=\"wp-image-514\" height=\"144\" src=\"https:\/\/relocationtimess.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/85e4dfad4b66cd29d0f55c4adfd8b985.jpg\" width=\"256\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/figure>\n\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<span>Mubashir speaks during a news conference with Mayor Jacob Frey at Minneapolis City Hall on Wednesday, December 10, 2025.<\/span>\n<\/div>\n<figcaption>WCCO<\/figcaption>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>\n<span>This US citizen went on his lunch break and ended up in a chokehold by a masked federal agent and detained, video shows<\/span>\n<\/p>\n<div>7  min read<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<p>\n            Several of the Trump voters also voiced concerns the White House was going too far, even as they said tougher enforcement was long overdue.\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n            Max Scheske is a member of the University of Michigan College Republicans but not a Trump fan.\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n            \u201cHe closed the border, which is good,\u201d Scheske said. \u201cBut there is zero reason to be making these provocative deportation videos.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n            The promise of tougher immigration enforcement was one of the reasons Iowa\u2019s Mudd was an early Trump supporter back in 2015.\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n            \u201cHard to watch, to be honest,\u201d he said of the administration\u2019s aggressive deportation tactics. \u201cBut enforcing the laws that have not been enforced is a shock to the system. Progressive energy powered the Democratic Party\u2019s impressive 2025 election wins and is essential for the party now that the consequential 2026 midterms are approaching.\n    <\/p>\n<div>\n<header>\n<span>\n      Related article\n    <\/span>\n<\/header>\n<section>\n<div>\n<div>\n<div>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"x20250302-alloverthemap-treatment-usa.jpg\" class=\"wp-image-516\" height=\"144\" src=\"https:\/\/relocationtimess.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/346e69a9df2814508e5e9ea1f0528192.jpg\" width=\"256\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/figure>\n\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<figcaption>CNN<\/figcaption>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>\n<span>In a close 2025 defeat, Democrats see the beginnings of a 2026 red-state surprise<\/span>\n<\/p>\n<div>9  min read<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<p>\n            Trump \u201chas complete contempt for democracy as well as the international laws of war,\u201d said Anna St. Clair, a Manhattan public relations worker.\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n            \u201cThe president is incompetent, racist, misogynist and money-hungry,\u201d said Fulks, the Atlanta voter.\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n            Pat Levin, a 95-year-old Pennsylvania Democrat, hopes 2026 opposition to Trump includes flipping her congressional district blue and ending the GOP House majority.\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n            \u201cUnder his tyranny, higher education has become politicized,\u201d said Levin. \u201cHe is leading us into moral bankruptcy.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<h2>\n<strong>There is bipartisan desire for reform<\/strong>\n<\/h2>\n<p>\n            This jumped out reading the survey responses. Voters who love Trump and voters who loathe him share a distrust and disaffection toward the government more generally.\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n            Pennsylvania Trump voter Aita\u2019s recommendation: \u201cTerm limits for Congress and the Supreme Court.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n            \u201cTerm limits and age limits for Congress,\u201d said Rodriguez, the Arizona progressive.\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n            \u201cTerm limits,\u201d said New Hampshire Trump backer McIver, when asked what would improve America\u2019s political discourse.\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n            \u201cLimited tenure for elected officials and Supreme Court justices,\u201d said Brian McMutuary, a restaurant manager in Wisconsin.\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n            Cavaliere, the Georgia independent, offered this suggestion: \u201cThat it is mandatory that the president be between the ages of 40-65 and you have to have military experience.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n            And this desire came from Wahbeh Nuseibeh, a Democratic-leaning voter in the Detroit suburbs: \u201cNew leadership across the board.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<h2>\n        Voters say: Lower the volume\n<\/h2>\n<p>\n            Like the calls for reforms, the desire for less animosity in politics was a bipartisan appeal.\n    <\/p>\n<div>\n<div>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-medium_large\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Joseph Knowles in Michigan in October 2024.\" class=\"wp-image-517\" height=\"432\" src=\"https:\/\/relocationtimess.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/5b00286ce052569aebbbea93f554e2ba.jpg\" width=\"768\" srcset=\"https:\/\/relocationtimess.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/5b00286ce052569aebbbea93f554e2ba.jpg 768w, https:\/\/relocationtimess.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/5b00286ce052569aebbbea93f554e2ba-300x169.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/figure>\n\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<span>Joseph Knowles in Michigan in October 2024.<\/span>\n<\/div>\n<figcaption>CNN<\/figcaption>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>\n            \u201cLess personal shots toward one another,\u201d was an ask from Knowles, the auto worker and Trump voter in Michigan.\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n            Shanen Ebersole, a cattle farmer and Trump supporter in Iowa, said the president should do more to lower the temperature. \u201cI wish he would be a little more encouraging for all of us to get along together,\u201d she said.\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n            Joan London is an attorney in Berks County, Pennsylvania, and an independent now because she felt she could not remain in the Republican Party led by Trump.
