Here\u2019s what you need to know<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\n            Avila Chevalier, a sociologyPhD student whose victory sent shockwaves throughout the Democratic establishment, has been under fire for a since-deleted Twitter account, previously reported by CNN, that included phrases such as \u201cseize the means of production,\u201d along with calls to abolish police, prisons and borders. Other controversial tweets include one that said Black and Arab men are both \u201cFetishizing ugly colonizer women\u201d and another that described wiping her dirty hands on the American flag in lieu of a napkin.\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n            As an undergraduate,Avila Chevalier attended Columbia University, where she organized with Students for Justice in Palestine, and after graduationbecame involved in pro-Palestinian campus protests over Israel\u2019s war in Gaza. She also attended a controversial October 8, 2023, pro-Palestinian rally in Times Square \u2014 one day after Hamas\u2019 attack on Israel \u2014 that featured speeches and rhetoric praising the attack.\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n            She previously told CNN, \u201cI have grown considerably in the years since these tweets, and I am focused on our community and our community\u2019s future.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n            On Thursday, President Donald Trump accused Avila Chevalier of being a communist, a charge that she said she wouldn\u2019t respond to while on MSNOW, saying, \u201cI won\u2019t be reactive.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n            A furtherreview of Avila Chevalier\u2019s archived Twitter account from 2020-2022 found repeated references to communism and Marxist ideology. The account, \u201cDarializabonet,\u201d appears to have been deleted in June 2022.\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n            The account\u2019s bio read in 2020, \u201chow communist of you.\u201d Archived posts and retweets during this timeframe included a recommendation that Karl Marx\u2019s <em>Capital<\/em> was an \u201cessential must-read,\u201d a complaint that public libraries did not carry enough Marxist literature by Lenin and other revolutionary writers, and a retweet  from a Communist-identifying account  lamenting that bookstore \u201cbanned books\u201d displays did not include <em>The Complete Works of J. <\/em><em>V. Stalin<\/em>.\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n            One archived retweet from 2020 quoted Assata Shakur, the former Black Liberation Army member who,in 1977, was convicted in the murder of a New Jersey state trooper before laterescaping prison and fleeing to Cuba. In the quote, Shakur said she \u201cpreferred Ho Chi Minh, Kim Il Sung, Che, or Fidel (Castro)\u201d before studying Marx and Lenin because the two \u201cwhite dudes\u201d had made contributions to \u201crevolutionary struggle\u201d that were \u201ctoo great to be ignored.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n            In April 2020, Avila Chevalier shared a post lamenting that people wouldn\u2019t accept communism over a lack of varieties of soup \u2013 a reference to the critique that the political system leads to fewer consumer choices.\n    <\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/relocationtimess.com\/?p=4245\">Behind the scenes with Jon Ossoff, the 2026 \u2014 and maybe 2028 \u2014 Democratic viral hit<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\n            \u201cI just cannot get over the fact that the universe has foisted upon us the perfect illustration of literally every failing of capitalism and people are still like we can\u2019t be communists cuz there won\u2019t be enough types of soup,\u201d the post she retweeted read.\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n            Other posts critiqued or joked about popular culture she viewed as anti-communist.\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n            In one post, Avila Chevalier  described the animated film <em>Anastasia<\/em> as \u201can explicitly anti-USSR kid\u2019s movie,\u201d and in another post she linked to she wrote: \u201cTime for me to once again sympathize with the people the Bolsheviks put in the blender for like 90 min \ud83d\ude0c.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n            Avila Chevalier was responding to a viral false claim that Disney had removed Anastasia from Disney+   streaming service because it was anti-Russia after the invasion of Ukraine.\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n            In another post, Avila Chevalier joked that Sheryl Crow\u2019s hit song <em>Soak Up the Sun<\/em> was \u201cbootstrap capitalist propaganda\u201d after noticing it opens with the lyric \u201cmy friend the communist,\u201d quipping that the character was \u201capparently also a bad organizer lol.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p>\nAnother 2020 retweet argued for democratic worker control of wealth, dismissing ideological labels by concluding: \u201cYou can call that communism, you can call it socialism, you can call it pancakes.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n            And previously, CNN had surfaced an April 2020 post where Avila-Chevalier said that while most of the political theory she had read was communist, \u201cthe pyromania associated with anarchism is very intriguing to me,\u201d punctuating the remark with a laughing emoji.\n    <\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/relocationtimess.com\/?p=4233\">After 40 years in Congress, Nancy Pelosi to help create institute to train leaders of the future<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Darializa Avila Chevalier, the Democratic congressional nominee endorsed by New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, who ousted longtime Rep.
