His comments about troop deaths\n<\/h2>\n<p>\n            Trump has often struggled to speak tactfully about the sacrifices of American troops, and that\u2019s surely the case now that he\u2019s personally sent them to war.\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n            After the first three deaths in the Iran war were reported, Trump immediately seemed to insert the deaths into a cost-benefit analysis.\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n            \u201cWe have three, but we expect casualties,\u201d Trump told NBC News.\u202f\u201cBut in the end, it\u2019s going to be a great deal for the world.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n            In a later video, Trump seemed to ad-lib while talking about the deaths, saying, \u201cThat\u2019s the way it is,\u201d and wagering there would be more deaths.\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n            Democrats quickly pilloried him for the quote.\n    <\/p>\n<h2>\n        8. Saying rising oil prices are kind of a good thing\n<\/h2>\n<p>\n            Trump has occasionally suggested that rising oil prices are actually good because the US is producing more of it.\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n            \u201cThe United States is the largest Oil Producer in the World, by far, so when oil prices go up, we make a lot of money,\u201d Trump said on social media back in March.\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n            Of course, certain people will benefit. But the vast majority of Americans don\u2019t work in the oil industry, and thus the rising prices are a burden.\n    <\/p>\n<h2>\n        7. His weird comments about dolls and pencils\n<\/h2>\n<p>\n            Trump last year repeatedly suggested that Americans dealing with rising prices in part due to tariffs could simply buy their children fewer dolls and\/or pencils.\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n            \u201cMaybe the children will have two dolls instead of 30 dolls, you know,\u201d he said in April 2025.\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n            Trump later made a similar argument about pencils.\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n            \u201cYou know, you can give up certain products,\u201d he said. \u201cYou can give up pencils, because under the China policy, you know every child can get 37 pencils. They only need one or two.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<h2>\n        6. Downplaying Iranian strikes against US forces during the ceasefire\n<\/h2>\n<p>\n            Believe it or not, the incident with an Apache helicopter wasn\u2019t the only time Trump has shrugged off, rhetorically at least, military action with Iran during the supposed ceasefire.\n    <\/p><p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/relocationtimess.com\/?p=2388\">Inside the \u2018highly complex\u2019 preparations for Trump\u2019s UFC fight: $60M for staging, port-a-potties and other logistics<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\n            After Iran targeted US bases in Kuwait and Bahrain and Kuwait\u2019s airport last week, Trump called it \u201cnot a big deal\u201d and dismissed it as a legitimate retaliatory strike.\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n            (Trump has frequently downplayed potential Iranian ceasefire violations, apparently in hopes of keeping the truce going and cutting a deal, although the US attacked Iran on Tuesday and he\u2019s vowed further attacks Wednesday.)\n    <\/p>\n<h2>\n        4. Gas price increases are \u201cpeanuts\u201d\n<\/h2>\n<p>\n            Last month, Trump dismissed the increase in gas prices as \u201cpeanuts.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n            \u201cThis is peanuts,\u201d Trump told reporters. \u201cI appreciate everybody putting up with it for a little while. It won\u2019t be much longer.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n            A recent  poll showed nearly two-thirds of Americans said the increase in gas prices had affected their households\u2019 finances at least \u201csomewhat.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<h2>\n        3. Affordability is a \u2018hoax\u2019 or a \u2018scam\u2019\n<\/h2>\n<p>\n            Last year especially, Trump repeatedly pitched the concept of affordability as a \u201choax\u201d or a \u201cscam.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n            \u201cIt\u2019s a con job,\u201d Trump\u202fsaid\u202fat one point. \u201cI think affordability is the greatest con job.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n            It was often difficult to grasp Trump\u2019s meaning, but he seemed to be suggesting Democrats were exaggerating the problem. Polls show Americans overwhelmingly believe affordability is a problem, though \u2014 and that Trump has neglected the issue.\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n            Trump also at times suggested affordability was a concept that had just been created, or that he had never heard the term before. This despite him having campaigned on making things more affordable in 2024.\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n            It paints a picture of a president not taking the issue seriously. It more seemed that he was arguing <em>the data<\/em> was somehow good. He argued that inflation would shoot down once the war was over.\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n            But it was a pretty nonsensical argument \u2014 one that created an overwhelmingly dismissive soundbite. He could argue inflation is temporary, but almost nobody would say 4.2% inflation is actually good or something they \u201clove.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<h2>\n        1. \u2018I don\u2019t think about Americans\u2019 financial situation\u2019\n<\/h2>\n<p>\n            This still ranks at the top, because of how blunt it was and how directly it speaks to Trump\u2019s abandonment of his former populism.\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n            Trump was asked last month how much Americans\u2019 concerns about the economic toll of the Iran war were motivating his push for a peace deal.\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n            He responded that they motivated him \u201cnot even a little bit.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n            \u201cThe only thing that matters when I\u2019m talking about Iran [is] they can\u2019t have a nuclear weapon,\u201d Trump\u202fsaid. \u201cI don\u2019t think about Americans\u2019 financial situation. I don\u2019t think about anybody. I think about one thing: We cannot let Iran have a nuclear weapon.
