He\u2019s already serving in the role already, and clearly has experience in it,\u201d Thune said. \u201cBut this is an environment where nothing is a safe or sure bet.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n            The comments come the morning after President Donald Trump announced at a private dinner at the White House that he intended to nominate Blanche \u2013 who was installed as acting attorney general after Pam Bondi was fired \u2013 to the role permanently. In a video Trump adviser Dan Scavino posted a video on X, Trump noted the confirmation process was \u201ccomplicated\u201d but predicted it would play out \u201cvery quickly.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n            Blanche is Trump\u2019s firebrand former personal attorney who had been serving as the No. 2 Justice Department official before Bondi\u2019s firing. The president has repeatedly lauded him, and his securing of indictments of some of Trump\u2019s political opponents \u2013 like former FBI director James Comey \u2013 have helped him win favor in the White House.\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n            But his tenure has also seen controversy. Bondi recently testified that Blanche was in charge of the department\u2019s handling of the Jeffrey Epstein files \u2013 which created a significant political headache for the White House. His expected nomination also comes in midst of a GOP revolt over the proposed $1.776 billion \u201canti-weaponization\u201d fund to compensate people who say they were wrongly prosecuted by the government.\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n            Thune said Blanche would now go to the Senate Judiciary Committee, where \u201cthey\u2019ll have to go through a normal confirmation process.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n            But it\u2019s unclear whether Blanche has enough votes to get out of committee.\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n            Sen. One of my criteria is no equivocation on January 6,\u201d Tillis said.\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n            The North Carolina Republican said he thought passing legislation to eliminate Trump\u2019s \u201canti-weaponization\u201d fund would improve Blache\u2019s chances \u2013 but a confirmation hearing could be complicated if the future of the fund is still being debated.\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n            \u201cIf this is still out there, can you imagine what the Democrats are going to do to that man during a confirmation hearing? Can you imagine how that could potentially influence a couple of our members? We take this off the table, Todd\u2019s chances of becoming confirmed as the AG go up,\u201d he said.\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n            Asked if he could support confirming Blanche if the Senate does not completely kill the fund, Tillis said, \u201cWe\u2019re looking at it. I haven\u2019t made a decision yet.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n            Another of the committee members, GOP Sen. John Cornyn, told CNN\u2019s Manu Raju on Thursday morning that he remains undecided about whether he\u2019ll vote for Blanche.\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n            \u201cI\u2019m looking forward to the process.
